What do I wear for my maternity session?

The most amazing thing about being a maternity photographer in Los Angeles is that we shoot at locations all over L.A., Santa Clarita, Pasadena, Lancaster, Palmdale, Ventura…anywhere! This allows us to get a variety of looks to better suit the vision you have for your session. And because of that we have a wide array of maternity gowns in our client closet that are available to you just for booking with us!

How do I pick from so many choices between locations?

It’s overwhelming! We get it! We will chat with you and first start by getting a vibe from you on the aesthetic you like and where you’re currently located. Are you more of a beach person? Desert landscape? Dry brush? Lush green trees? Maybe an urban small town landscape? What about privately at home for a more intimate session with your partner? We also always think about the season we’re in. It’s probably too hot to do a desert landscape in July as we’d be facing over 100 degree temps, which could dehydrate an expectant mother. So we may suggest a cooler location that still has a desert look, but may be in the mountains in a vast area so it’s more desert-like but won’t risk dehydration.

How do I decide on a gown or what to wear?

Whether you choose from our client closet or you bring your own clothes, a general rule of thumb is to stand out from the background we’re shooting on. Monochromatic (green dress on a green background) can still absolutely work if you have an accessory like a jacket, fur, vest, etc. because it will separate you from your surroundings. Layers always photograph well! But also stay true to you! We’ve shot many sessions where the clients are more casual than formal, and that’s cute too! The biggest thing to remember is to wear something you are comfortable and confident in. If you aren’t, it will show in your portraits. If you’re more concerned on size versus color, don’t worry! We have a variety of sizes and styles as well, so if you let us know your size we can give you some options and work from there. The goal is for you to be thrilled with your portraits.

What does my partner wear?

Once you’ve decided on location and your own outfit, then we can absolutely guide you on ideas for your partner. Everyone’s style is different and your partner also may have things they are more comfortable in. So we will try and blend the surroundings with you and with them to bring it all together.

How do I dress the rest of my family?

Similarly to how your partner is dressed. We figure out location and your outfit and then we plan the family around those two factors and the aesthetic you like. Jewel tones are always going to photograph well. We have this handy guide to help you plan, as well as a Pinterest board of ideas. As always you can ask us for assistance!

Do you have pictures of your gowns?

We don’t have them all photographed yet, as we merged our gown collections when Bella Jeanne Photography became Little Blue World Photography. What we do have, you can find HERE. Just remember that just because you don’t see it here, doesn’t mean we don’t have it! Definitely reach out to us for any questions or recommendations!

What about Hair and Makeup?

We work with a variety of MUAH artists. In Santa Clarita, Antelope Valley, and Los Angeles our favorite is Melanie Cristescu (send her a message on Insta!). Just make sure your artist has a background of working with still photography because light and shadow can effect the color of your foundation and how it shows up on camera (too pale or too dark for your natural color).
