In-home newborn sessions, what are they and what do they include?

Newborn Photographer - Santa Clarita, Pasadena, Los Angeles

Newborn Photography in the Los Angeles, Pasadena, and Santa Clarita areas mean you’re having to spend at least an hour in the car sometimes just to get to your preferred studio. Little Blue World Photography alleviates the stress of navigating traffic, the hurried scramble to organize your baby and siblings, and the meticulous checking of your diaper bag…all by shooting right in the comfort of your own home!

Our in-home newborn sessions blend both our posed studio experience and documentary / lifestyle fine art style into one session conveniently at your own home! We also offer 3 different packages so if you only need or can budget for a short session with just documentary style images, we’ve got you covered there too.

Posed Portion (Deluxe & Grand Packages)

If your package includes a posed portion we will bring all of the supplies, right down to the swaddles, to do some solo shots of the star of the show before we include the rest of the family. If you have a preference in color palette, let us know ahead of time, but for the most part we shoot with neutral, timeless colors that work well with not only baby’s skin tones, but photograph beautifully. We start your session by setting up and letting baby have their solo moment in the spotlight with a minimum of 4 poses.

Tips for Posed Sessions

  • Make sure to keep your thermostat pretty high (around 80°F) so when baby is unwrapped for posing they can stay nice and warm.

  • Have 2 pacifiers ready as newborns will use the sucking motion as comfort since they are being touched and moved a lot.

  • Have a section of one of your main rooms cleared so we can setup our lights and props for your session.

  • Declutter main areas, nightstands, end tables, counters, etc.

  • If baby is bottle fed, have the supplies ready and nearby just in case we need it. If baby is breast fed, try and top them off as we’re setting up.

  • Ensure siblings aren’t in the same area as we are. Lightstands, cords, etc. can easily be tripped on, and we don’t want any hazards for sibling(s) or baby!

Documentary / Lifestyle Portion (included in all packages)

In almost all of our imagery we like to focus on unposed and authentic images of your family that evoke emotion, small glimpses of genuine connection and the love that exists in those moments. These early days are unlike anything you'll ever experience again. The exhaustion, the awe, the tiny details that will get lost in the haze of time (and sleep deprivation)...we are here for all of it.  Our emphasis isn't on making things perfect, it's on making things feel like you.

This portion of your session includes parents and siblings, even the family dog if you’d like! It’s typically shot in the most well lit rooms of your house, and if it’s warm and you love your backyard, we can even do a few family portraits out there! The most common rooms we shoot in are:

  • The common area of your house - For most people that’s the family or living room where you’ll spend most of your time making memories as a family.

  • The nursery - You worked hard to make it perfect for your little one, so let’s get some candid shots in there and document their very first bedroom!

  • The primary bedroom - Cuddling in bed as a family is one of our favorite captures! This is a great place for sibling photos, including those furry ones too!

All of our sessions have a well-rounded gallery of options for you to share and display this small snapshot in time. If there’s anything in particular you want to capture at your session, let us know and we can incorporate it for you!
