So what do we look for when location scouting for our own sessions? There’s some elements that are just important to photography, like light and shadow, but what else is there? Here’s our top reasons we shoot in the location we do!
Lighting: Light is one of the most critical elements in photography as it determines the brightness, contrast, and mood of the photograph. Different locations offer various lighting conditions depending on factors such as time of day, weather, and scenery. For example, shooting outdoors during the golden hour, shortly after sunrise or before sunset, provides soft, warm, and flattering light that enhances the overall look of the image. In contrast, harsh midday sunlight can create strong shadows and contrast, which is not true to our dreamy style.
Textures: The texture of surfaces within a location can add depth, interest, and visual appeal to our photographs. Different textures, different kinds of plants, soil, and even trees all add complexity to our earthy style. Locations with diverse textures allow us to create dynamic and engaging images and really focus on our intimate style.
Colors: The color palette of a location influences the overall mood, atmosphere, and visual impact of photographs. Vibrant, saturated colors can create a lively and energetic feel, while muted or monochromatic tones may evoke a sense of tranquility or nostalgia. The colors we definitely look at, but aren’t as important to us as lighting and texture because we have a very specific way of editing that is our artistic style. Every photographer will have their own editing style, so that’s why we always ensure our clients have reviewed our portfolio before booking and enjoy the look of our photographs.
