In-home newborn sessions, what are they and what do they include?
If you’re looking for newborn photography in Los Angeles, Pasadena, or Santa Clarita, congratulations—you’ve just signed up for an hour of white-knuckled freeway driving, during which your newborn will inevitably need a diaper change, your toddler will demand snacks you don’t have, and you’ll realize you left the pacifier in the driveway.
Little Blue World Photography eliminates the need for this particular nightmare by bringing the studio to you. No frantic car seat wrangling, no last-minute meltdowns (yours or the baby’s)—just a beautifully lit, stress-free session right in the comfort of your own home.
Our in-home newborn sessions can bring you the best of both worlds: the polished look of a posed studio shoot with the warmth and authenticity of lifestyle fine art photography. We offer three thoughtfully curated collections, plus our signature Style & Pose add-on—because even at home, your baby deserves to be a little bit glamorous.
Style & Pose (Add-On)
Our Style & Pose add-on includes a perfectly posed moment for your little superstar. We bring everything: swaddles, backdrops, and the unshakable patience required to convince a newborn that now is, in fact, the perfect time for a nap. Before we bring in the supporting cast (that’s you), we’ll capture solo shots of your baby in up to six poses.
If you have a strong opinion about colors, let us know ahead of time. Otherwise, we stick to a palette of neutral, timeless tones—shades that flatter delicate newborn skin. We start by setting the scene, making sure your baby is comfortable, and then giving them their well-earned moment in the spotlight.
Tips for Style & Pose Sessions
Make sure to keep your thermostat pretty high (around 80°F) so when baby is unwrapped for posing they can stay warm. It should be uncomfortable for the adults in the room.
Have 2 pacifiers ready as newborns will use the sucking motion for comfort since they are being touched and moved a lot. If you aren’t planning to use a pacifier, please know that this short use will not create any latch confusion issues.
Will will need about a 6x8 space to set up near an outlet. Have an area in your primary living space cleared so we can setup our lights and props for your session.
Declutter main areas, nightstands, end tables, counters, etc.
If baby is bottle fed, have the supplies ready and nearby just in case we need it. If baby is breast fed, try and top them off as we’re setting up.
Please try to keep older siblings out of the area while we work. Lightstands, cords, etc. can easily be tripped on, and we don’t want any hazards for sibling(s) or baby!
Lifestyle Sessions
In all of our lifestyle sessions, we focus on the unposed, the unscripted, and the unexpectedly sweet; those small, fleeting moments of connection that remind you why you willingly signed up for sleepless nights. These early days are a strange mix of awe and exhaustion, where time warps and you find yourself crying over how tiny your baby’s fingernails are. It’s a blur, really. That’s where we come in.
Our goal isn’t perfection, it’s to capture something that feels like you. This part of your session includes parents, siblings, and even your family pets. We shoot in the best-lit areas of your home (because good light makes everything better) and if it’s warm and you love your backyard, we can take a few family portraits out there too.
The most common rooms we shoot in:
The family/living room – Because this is where life happens. The diaper changes, the swaying back and forth at 2 a.m., the moments where you wonder if your baby will ever let you sit down again.
The nursery – You spent months preparing it, carefully selecting the crib, the artwork, the rug that ties it all together. Now’s the time to document your baby actually existing in it, even if they won’t sleep there for another six months.
The primary bedroom – The ultimate spot for cuddling, dozing off mid-conversation, and attempting to drink coffee while lying down. It’s also perfect for sibling photos—including the four-legged variety, who will either embrace their new role as protector or pretend the baby doesn’t exist.
No stiff poses, no forced smiles—just you, your family, and all the beautifully chaotic love that comes with these early days.
All of our sessions result in a well-rounded gallery of options for you to share and display of this small snapshot in time. If there’s anything in particular you want to capture at your session, let us know and we will incorporate it for you!
